SCIENCE IN THE SUMMER - GENETICS!
GlaxoSmithKline Science in the Summer: Every library will have a series of free, fun science workshops on Genetics. Kids will conduct interesting investigations:
building a cell to learn more about chromosomes and genes
extracting DNA from a strawberry
examining their fingerprints
constructing a DNA molecule
The workshops are for children entering grades 2 and 3 (Level 1) and grades 4 through 6 (Level 2). They’re taught by certified teachers and limited to 15 per workshop. All children must be pre-registered to attend, and parents must come to the library to pre-register their child.
Some libraries will have four-day sessions, with 45-minute classes held each day, Tuesday - Friday. Other libraries will have two-day workshops, held in the morning or afternoon, with a 30-minute break. A few libraries will have an all-day session from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with lunch provided.
