EXHIBITIONS
AND PROGRAMS: Workshops
When Books were Rare and Beautiful

Illuminated
initial created by a Meg Kennedy student. |
Travel back
through time to the Middle Ages when books were more precious
than gold or jewels. Artist Meg Kennedy and storyteller Ed Stivender
will demonstrate how medieval books known as manuscripts were
painstakingly made 600 years ago.
"Regardless
of their backgrounds, all children share a sense of wonder at
the idea that books can be made by hand, and the compulsion to
try it themselves can be irresistible when they're given the chance,"
says Kennedy. After the interactive performance, school-age participants
will create their own illuminated manuscript letters.
